BRIAN HOYT

I started racing mountain bikes in 1997 when a friend of mine needed a 5th for his team at 24 Hours of Canaan. I thought I should do a race before Canaan, just so I would know what to expect. So I chose Greenbrier, climbed aboard my rigid Trek 930 and away I went. Three laps and a beginner DFL later, I decided to go ahead with Canaan. I was hooked; I ordered my first IF Deluxe that October. There is something about riding a bike, looking down at your shadow and realizing that it is your own power that is driving you forward. If you pedal harder, you go faster. I love riding bikes and IF has been included me on their grassroots roster since 2003. I have raced mountain, road, adventure, multi-sport, both on- and off-road. My wife and I have also made an annual ritual of MS 150 Bike Tours, doing a Tour every year since 2002. My mom has MS (multiple sclerosis) and we ride because we want to see this horrible disease eradicated from the planet. This year will likely find me racing some road and cross events. It is my current opinion that cross is the most fun I have had on a bicycle.

When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. ~H.G. Wells
